CERAMICS.... Images of plants have been used to decorate ceramics since ancient time, but in the eighteenth century porcelain factories such as Chelsea and Derby in England, and the Royal Copenhagen factory in Denmark, started a tradition of using fine botanical prints to adorn dinner and dessert services.
Josiah Wedgwood, Darwin's grandfather, also used botanical prints on fine creamwares made at his factory in Staffordshire.
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh had revived this tradition with the previously unpublished drawings from the garden's rich archive, the first image to be used is a Fuchsia, drawn in around 1859.
